What to Expect From Me as Your Therapist
A Therapist Who Understands the Music World
Hey there,
So, you're thinking about starting therapy and you're wondering what working with me is actually like. Totally fair. Choosing a therapist is a big deal, and you deserve to know what you’re signing up for.
Here’s the gist:
I’ve been where you are—between the practice room walls and the bright stage lights.
My background as a musician informs every session, but my focus is always on the person behind the instrument. I understand the culture of the music world: the perfectionism, the competition, the vulnerability it takes to perform, and the constant pressure to prove yourself.
Because I’ve lived in that world, I understand how easy it is for music to become your entire identity—and how difficult it can be to take care of yourself in an industry that rarely slows down.
My goal is to help musicians build lives where their artistry can thrive without sacrificing their well-being.
My Approach to Therapy
I’ll always be honest with you, but in a way that feels supportive rather than shaming. Therapy with me is grounded in curiosity, not judgment. I see us as a team.
You’re the expert on your life. My role is to help you make sense of it, shift what’s not working, and grow what is.
Our sessions are collaborative, empowering, and—dare I say it—sometimes even fun.
Yes, we’ll talk about the deep stuff. But therapy can also include laughter, lightness, and the occasional well-timed meme reference. Because being human is weird sometimes, and humor can make hard conversations easier.
I’ll often invite you to look at things from different perspectives—not to be annoying, but because sometimes the tiniest shift can open up a completely new way of seeing yourself. And that’s where real change begins.
So no, you don’t have to have it all together to start. You just have to show up. I’ll meet you where you are—with kindness, curiosity, and maybe a little humor along the way.
We’ll figure the rest out together.

The Official Stuff:
My name is Jessica Hernandez. I’m a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist - Supervisor (#202078) and a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor (#72008) in the state of Texas. I earned a Master’s degree in Family Therapy from the University of Houston Clear Lake.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years studying and performing music. I hold both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance, an experience that gives me a deep appreciation for the creative, emotional, and professional realities musicians face.
Because of this background, I have a special affinity for working with:
Musicians and performers
Music students and emerging artists
Creative professionals
Artists navigating identity, burnout, and performance pressure
As a therapist, I have 13 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate attachment difficulties, relationship issues, life transitions, and personal growth. For over 10 years, I’ve worked at child advocacy centers providing therapy to families who have experienced abuse and trauma. While I have training in multiple therapy approaches, my go-to models are Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for individuals and couples, Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
